Dear colleagues,

Welcome to the third edition of our newsletter. We were delightfully surprised by 95 submissions to our EGOS sub-theme on Innovating for Desirable Futures: Exploring the Intersection of Innovation, Sustainability, and Time this year.

Scholars from around the globe sent in excellent submissions using multiple theoretical, empirical, and methodological approaches. It is inspiring to see such interest in the temporal complexities of innovating for sustainable and desirable futures. We are excited to see the community growing and look forward to the rich discussions in Milan.

We are happy to announce our PDW that will take place at EGOS 2024. The PDW 05: Research Methods and Strategies for Co-Creating Desirable Futures with Practitioners, organized by Tima Bansal, Ju Young Lee, and Amanda Williams, will take place on Wednesday July 3rd from 9:00 to 13:00. Submit your short research proposal by April 30th via the EGOS website to apply.

We are searching for volunteers to help organize social events at EGOS and AOM 2024. For EGOS, we will organize an informal lunch directly after the PDW on Wednesday and would like help selecting a location and with logistics. For AOM, we would like to organize an innovative off-site OMT social event designed for building relationships in our community and provide space for co-creating desirable futures. Interested individuals should contact Amanda (Williams) directly.

Related to our topic, some of you may be interested in the upcoming deadline for the 2024 ONE-SIM Outreach Award. This award honors researchers who have excelled at disseminating their research on sustainability topics to non-academic audiences. The deadline for applications is on April 30. The award website features videos in which prior finalists share tips of outreach activities

Please do have a look at our website and tell others to sign up for the newsletter, if you like.

We hope to see some of you in Lausanne at the Alternative Futures Workshop, at AOM and/or EGOS.

Finally, we have some sad news to share: our colleague Helen Etchanchu passed away on Feb 14 after having fought bravely against cancer. She was just 39 years old. We are deeply saddened to lose such a wonderful and dear colleague. Her fellow OS4Future members have written a touching obituary that highlights Helen’s optimism and her deep commitment to sustainability issues.

Best wishes,

Ali, Amanda, Emilio, Juliane, & Tima
